Course Overview

Prompting young minds to write can be an extremely challenging task in a classroom environment especially when Creative Writing lessons are met with skepticism by students. An effective creative writing class encourages each student to view themselves as creatives who are willing to play with language and express themselves through their stories.

Through this course teachers will be able to divide their creative writing lesson into four key components: Immerse, Analyze, Plan and Write. This will be done through activities that are enjoyable, inspiring and motivating so that students are encouraged to exercise imagination and engage their five senses during writing class.

Participants will discover ways to innovate, execute and implement pedagogical innovations in the classroom to motivate reluctant writers to write. They will be able to use writing tasks to increase awareness, confidence and fluency in writing to produce pieces that are creative and coherent through a relaxed and rewarding classroom environment.

Learning Objectives:

This Creative Writing Workshop aims to help participants to:

• Improve learner participation and enthusiasm towards creative writing
• Motivate and encourage creative thinking and idea generation.
• Use a variety of pedagogical approaches to encourage and motivate students to write
• Support and Encourage the exchange of ideas during brainstorming and idea generation
• Facilitate and Guide learners to create pieces that are creative and coherent.
• Facilitate the story writing process through exercises in deciding key story elements (character, plot, setting)
