Course Overview

This foundational module introduces key theories, models, and mindsets in educational leadership. It encourages participants to explore leadership as an adaptive, collaborative, and context-sensitive process rather than a hierarchical role. Participants will examine how leaders can foster inclusive, resilient, and learning-oriented school cultures, particularly in resource-limited and complex educational environments.

Learning Outcomes

Day 1 : Redefining Leadership Beyond Hierarchy

  • Explore reflective models to enhance self-awareness
  • Explain foundational concepts and theories of educational leadership.
  • Analyze how leadership can be enacted collaboratively rather than hierarchically.

Day 2 : Building Collaborative School Cultures through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

  • Strengthening teacher leadership and professional growth through sustained collaboration
  • The role of collaboration and trust in school improvement
  • Understanding and implementing PLCs as tools for capacity building

Day 3 : Leading Change

  • Developing shared vision, collective responsibility, and reflective dialogue
  • Apply adaptive leadership strategies to lead and sustain change.

Day 4 : Navigating Policy, Culture, and Institutional Constraints

  • Demonstrate techniques for managing uncertainty and resistance in a constructive manner.
  • Evaluate how policy, culture, and context influence leadership decisions.
  • Develop strategies for ethical and effective decision-making in constrained environments.
  • Evaluate school leaders' decision-making processes based on their priority for student learning and teacher proficiency, use of critical thinking and problem-solving techniques, and evaluation and follow-up actions regarding the effectiveness of their decisions.

Module Details

Leading and Shaping School Culture is a four-day course delivered over four weeks, with sessions held every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The program integrates interactive discussions, hands-on activities, and practical components that enable participants to apply key concepts directly within their school contexts. This structure allows time between sessions for reflection and implementation, fostering deeper learning and sustained professional growth.

Upon successful completion of Leading and Shaping School Culture, participants will receive a certificate of course completion issued by the LUMS School of Education.
