Course Overview

This workshop is designed to support new IB practitioners in developing a clear and meaningful understanding of the IB philosophy. It aims to help teachers move beyond traditional, teacher-led approaches and instead create classroom environments where students actively participate, collaborate, and construct their own understanding.

In the first part of the workshop, participants will explore the key components of the MYP framework. The focus will be on understanding inquiry-based learning, the importance of skill development, and how concepts can connect across different subject areas. At the heart of these discussions is the IB Learner Profile, which shapes the vision of what we want our students to become. The role of student-centered learning will also be explored, helping teachers reflect on how to make their classrooms more engaging and meaningful.

The second part of the workshop focuses on helping teachers translate their understanding from the first module into practice by designing purposeful and intentional units. Participants will unpack Key and Related Concepts, explore how global contexts make learning more relevant, and understand the role of Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills in developing independent learners. They will also learn how to frame strong inquiry questions and develop effective Statements of Inquiry (SOI) that give direction and depth to their teaching.

Throughout the workshop, participants will have opportunities to reflect on their own beliefs and classroom practices. The goal is to help them gradually align their teaching with the IB philosophy, with a strong focus on nurturing skills, attitudes, and mindsets that prepare students for life beyond the classroom.

• Reflect critically on their own teaching practices and identify areas for alignment with IB principles
