Course Overview

"Igniting Curiosity: Mastering Inquiry-Based Learning for Deeper Student Engagement" is a dynamic, hands-on training designed to help educators shift from traditional teaching to a more student-centered, inquiry-driven approach. Participants will explore the principles of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL), discover how to craft powerful questions, and design engaging lessons that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and deep understanding. Through interactive workshops, peer collaboration, and real-world applications, educators will leave with practical strategies to implement Kath Murdochs Inquiry Cycle, differentiate instruction, and assess student learning in meaningful ways. This training equips teachers with the tools to transform their classrooms into spaces of exploration, discovery, and lifelong learning.


Learning Objectives:


  • Define IBL and its significance in fostering student curiosity, engagement, and deeper understanding.
  • Identify areas where inquiry-based approaches can be integrated into their lessons to promote student-driven learning.
  • Examine different models of inquiry-based learning (Structured, Guided, Open Inquiry) and analyze the role of questioning and provocation in sparking student inquiry.
  • Investigate Kath Murdoch's Inquiry Cycle and how it supports student-driven learning, then compare traditional vs. inquiry-based teaching methods to identify key pedagogical shifts.
  • Design an inquiry-based lesson or unit that promotes student agency, exploration, and reflection, while incorporating meaningful formative and authentic assessments.
  • Implement strategies for ongoing professional reflection and collaboration, ensuring continuous improvement and refinement of inquiry-based teaching practices.
